Phoenix Jones: The real life Kick-Ass

Meet Phoenix Jones. The real life Kick-Ass. Maybe even Batman...Only without the gadgets. The Punisher even.

Superman, Batman, Spiderman. Names that everybody knows as superheroes in comics, TV and films. But the name Phoenix Jones will have people scratching their heads. In something that has caught the attention a superhero fan, Phoenix Jones has done what many 'fanboys' have imagined at some point in their lives, and become a real life superhero. And this is no joke either. See for yourselves:

If anyone has ever seen the movie Kick-Ass, then you have some idea of what it would be like to have an actual superhero, or in this case, a guy walking around in a costume with a bullet proof vest, taser, and mace. And funnily enough, that's what we've come to see on the streets of Washington in the US. And he's not alone either. Leading a ten man strong group of vigilantes calling themselves the Rain City Superhero Movement, Phoenix Jones and his clan are living out what has only been in comic books and films.

As a self confessed nerd, I actually find this pretty cool. Like a part of my fantasy world has come true. I know it's a bit sad maybe. They may not have powers like in comics. And they're not exactly 'superheroes' in the classic term, but I love how a few random people have become creative, and brave enough, to go out and do what can only be imagined. I guess it was only a matter of time before someone thought of this and tried to emulate a superhero.

Batman did the exact same thing. And so did Kick-ass. I know they're characters in a book and come from a ficticious world, but they are probably the best examples to use that can be compared to a realistic setting.

I'm not saying that I'm going to go out in spandex and start rescuing people in the streets and fight villains, but my point is that both the nerd and the child in me doesn't find it as silly as others would. Not because I want to do the same, but because I find it cool and can say to people there's actually heroes, or 'superheroes' that exist. I know theres people reading this who think that I'm rambling, and sounding like a loser who needs to grow up. But hey...I am a nerd after all.

'Rated R Superstar' Retires

11 time World Champion. 14 time Tag Team Champion. 5 time Intercontinental champion. Former U.S Champion. 2 Time Money in the Bank winner. 2001 King of the Ring. The list goes on and on for the highly decorated 'Rated R Superstar' Edge but the now formerly known wrestler has had to retire due to long standing injuries. One of the most memorable and great superstars of the modern era, he has helped reshape the WWE through memorable matches and recreating his character to become one of the top faces in the industry.

Edge and Christian winning the tag titles at Wrestlemania 2000
The WWE official website stated: "Less than a week after his successful title defense against Alberto Del Rio at WrestleMania XXVII, World Heavyweight Champion Edge has been forced to retire from in-ring competition due to injury. The unexpected news brings to an end a storied WWE career spanning 13 years and consisting of 11 World Title reigns.

The Rated-R Superstar had been suffering numbness and uncontrollable trembling in his arms and hands. This is not the first time Edge has experienced these symptoms of nueropraxia. An MRI administered at Atlanta Midtown Diagnostic Imaging last Monday was sent to Dr. Joseph Maroon, a renowned neurosurgeon and professor of neurosurgery at The Pittsburgh School of Medicine. After careful examination of the MRI, it was determined that Edge would never be cleared to compete again, and thus, he is forced to retire.

In 2003, Edge underwent a two level spinal fusion of the discs between his C5, C6 and C7 vertebrae. After being cleared to compete, The Rated-R Superstar returned to the ring, resulting in stenosis of the spine, or a narrowing of the spinal column, above and below the fused discs. This narrowing resulted in less and less of the vital fluid needed to protect the spinal cord. Medical professionals cannot clear Edge to compete ever again in WWE since doing so could result in paralysis or even death."

During the attitude era, Edge wasn't best known for his singles competitions. But instead as a tag team competitor. Teaming with Christian and Gangrel, and eventually branching off with Christian to form one the more entertaining tag teams of the Attitude. Of course any wrestling fan in the 00's remember the Ladder and TLC matches at Wrestlemania that redefined how those matches were seen. Throughout the years, we've seen all matches including ladders evolve. Of course Edge was not solely responsible. Christian, The Hardys and The Dudleys helped change this match. Posing for the benefit of those with flash photography

Moving through the years, Edge became more of an established singles superstar with memorable feuds including one with Kurt Angle. This rivalry has always been a favourite of mine, producing classic moments such as the 'You Suck' chants which Angle has never managed to shake off, and the eventual shaving of Angles hair.

Fast forward to the 2004/2005 years, and we see the transformation into the 'Rated R Superstar' and 'Ultimate Opportunist'. A whole range of moments can be picked out. The cashing in of the Money in the Bank, the live sex celebration on Raw, the marriage to Vickie Guerrero, the feud with Matt Hardy, the multiple title reigns. Even the mini fued with the Raw General Manager, and the destruction of their laptop. The list is endless. Sadly, Edge's career isn't. But one things for sure, he has cemented himself as one of the great superstars of this generation, and arguably of all time.

Edge retains for the final time
And to cap off a great career, he went in to Wrestlemania champion, and came out champion. Then got to retire as the World Heavyweight Champion. A moment within its self I would say...

Mortal Kombat series

For all the Mortal Kombat fans, theres a new weekly online series showing on YouTube created by gaming website Machinima. Judging by what the trailer shows, it looks like it has stayed loyal to the game and has created a realistic and believable environment. The style of the first episode could very easily be mistaken for a full length movie from the way it is shot. However, its only a 12 minute episode. But, for a short online series it is very well done and from the looks of it will become hugely popular. Recognisable characters from the trailer include Blade, Kano,  Jax, Scorpion and Sub-Zero

Follow the series here.

Transformers dancing the Thriller

The moment I came across this, I literally started doing the dance from my bed. You got the Autobots dancing in tune to Michael Jackson's Thriller and it looks pretty funny considering they're a bunch of robots dancing.

Zod Cast. KNEEL!

"KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!"
The famous words General Zod demands all opponents and enemies, including Superman do. And the new Superman film is set to once again bring that to the screen in a new light. 'Man of Steel' has officially cast Michael Shannon as the villain of the movie, but it will be very interesting to see how this version is played out.

I, for one, am looking forward to seeing a new interpretation of the two characters as Zod is arguably one of the more popular Superman villains who can actually go one on one with him and even defeat the superhero. Shannon doesn't look like a 'General Zod', and while the circling rumors Viggo Mortensen would be cast, it looked like Mortenson would of been the perfect fit. But with the official casting, Shannon could either create a whole new Zod we have not seen yet, or may surprise people and bring a menacing and evil persona we have all come to know.

The Richard Donner movies, for its time was cutting edge. And are most certainly memorable to all Superman fans. But in todays generation of film, we all look for the spectacular and with the promise that this updated Superman will be more of a fighting character, I, as many others would hope to see some epic fight scenes that should redefine Superman and finally distance himself from the 'Donner-verse' which Superman Returns was unable to do.

Wrestlemania 27: A letdown...?

Wrestlemania 28:
Sunday, April 3rd 2011
The Georgia Dome. Atlanta, Georgia

The show opens with the guest host himself, The Rock to cut a promo and warm up the 71,000 strong Atlanta crowd. By Rock's standard, the promo was well below expectations and was not the typical promo that fans are used to seeing

The first match of the night is Edge vs Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship.
A very surprising choice for a opening match considering you have the world champion and Royal Rumble winner facing off against each other, which judging by the reaction did throw the crowd off. But nonetheless, the two superstars put on a god opening match with Edge eventually retaining the championship, spearing Del Rio for the win. After the match, Christian and Edge took a crowbar and steel pipe to Del Rio's $100,000 Rolls Royce and proceeded to scratch and smash the car, reducing Del Rio to close to tears.
Match Rating: 6/10

The next match is the formerly 'Dashing' Cody Rhodes vs Rey Mysterio.
Cody comes out first, still hiding his faced, whilst Rey came out dressed in a Captain America inspired costume. Considering this was second on the card the two put on a very impressive match. Rhodes managed to get the win by smashing the removed knee pad of Rey and smashing into his face behind the referees back.
Another good match early on the card with good performances from both.
7/10

Big Show, Kane, Kofi Kingston & Santino Marella vs. The Corre
A very, and I mean very short match. I would be surprised if this match got even two minutes. There loads of high spots crammed in with people taking finishing moves. Match ended with Santino hitting Slater with the cobra, who then turns to be knocked out by Big Shows right hand. Not much can be said for this match considering it was below 2 minutes long.
2/10

Randy Orton vs. CM Punk
One of the more anticipated matches which did not fail to disappoint, and was one of the well put together matches. Lots of back and forwards action with both men being able to gain advantages over the other. CM Punk had the advantage towards the end of the match but made the mistake of leapfrogging into a RKO to end the match.
7/10

Michael Cole vs Jerry Lawler
(Special Guest Referee - Stone Cold Steve Austin)
This highly anticipated match gave the fans what in Michael Cole getting what was deserved, but with Cole not being a natural competitor, this match was never going to be an all out brawl. The match did have its moments though with a swerve at the end of the match resulting in a decision reversal, Stone Cold delivering 3 stunners, and comedy moments from Cole.
Lawler managed to get Cole to submit, but according to the Raw Genenral Manager, Austin abused his use of authority and deemed Michael Cole the new winner of the match
5/10

No Holds Barred Match
The Undertaker vs. Triple H
This had to be match of the night with of the men leaving everything in the ring. From the very start of the match, both competitors went full on at each other never letting up. The match had it all with chairs, tables and even the destruction of Michale Cole's 'Colemine'. However, Undertaker continued his winning streak, forcing Triple to submit to the gogoplata and carrying on to an unprecedented 19-0. The brutality of the match was evident though with either man unable to stand at the conclusion, and Undertaker having to be driven to the back on a stretcher.
9/10

Trish Stratus, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi & John Morrison vs. Dolph Ziggler & LayCool
A decent mixed tag match with Stratus, Snooki and Morrison getting the win after Snooki performed the shock of the night by pulling off a handspring elbow to pin McCool.Ziggler and Morrison hardly had any input in the match with them only fighting on the outside and Morrison performing Starship Pain to ringside.
 6/10

WWE Championship Match
The Miz (c) vs. John Cena
Considering this was the main event of the night, this was a dissapointing and standard match with many people more interested in what role The Rock would play. The match intitially ended with both Cena and Miz being counted out after crashing over the guard rail and unable to recover in time. The Rock, being the host, would restart the match with no count outs or disqualifications. The match did restart and arguably, the highlight of the match would be The Rock delivering a Rock Bottom to Cena, allowing The Miz to make the pin and decisively retain the title.
5/10

Overal, Wrestlemania 27 was a disappointment considering the fact that it is the biggest event of the wrestling year. It wa an entertaining event, but failed to live up to t's expectations and barely kept up with the standard of its predecessors. The Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan match was cut from the card, and the two main event matches did not help matters. The guest host, The Rock, nowhere near his best and seemed like he was holding back and speaking with more restraint than we are used to see to seeing from hi.
My rating: 6/10

Schwazenegger: 'The Governator'

With Arnie no longer governing, it's been rumored that he would his return to acting. But if thats true, it wont be before he makes his return to... *Drum Roll*... Cartoons!?

He has revealed that he will be starring in a new animated series which plays off his roles of the 'Terminator' character which propelled him to world wide fame and his recent governor role, creating 'the Governator'.

The Governator is set to be released in 2012, which will also have its own comic book line, and eventual 3D film.

Jackie Chan RIP. Pre April Fools joke gone wrong!?

Jackie Chan died this week... Or at least thats the rumour circling Twitter the day of 29th of MARCH!

With its origins unknown, the rumour led many to believe that the world famous actor and martial arist had died of a heart attack earlier today. With the internet being the way it is, 'RIP Jackie Chan' became, and at this time still is, the top trending topic on Twitter. Many people are hearing the rumours for the first time, whilst many are still in confusion as to whether they are true.

Jackie, in fact, is alive! And the man himself has told the world.
A statement from Jackie's official Facebook and Twitter puts those rumours to rest by telling everyone: "Jackie is alive and well. He did not suffer a heart attack and die, as was reported on many social networking sites and in online news reports. Jackie is fine and is busy preparing for the filming of his next movie."  (@EyeOfJackieChan and http://www.facebook.com/jackie)

Looking at how big of a topic it had become, it would seem that either somebody played a very well put together hoax. Or somebody thought that it was Aprils fools day, making them 3 days early...
If its the latter, shame on you!

Final Smallville episodes

In just under two weeks time, the final episodes of Smallville will return to our TV screens.

For 10 years, we have followed Clark Kent on his journey towards becoming the person the world come to know as Superman. And now as we reach the end of the long running show, the final 6 episodes return on the 15th of April and we have been promised that we finally see 'Superman' in full costume and flight.

The first episode to return is titled 'Kent' in which we see more of the parallel universe and Clark Luthor. Picking up where Scion left us hanging on the edge of our seats, the promo shows us what seems to be the continuation of Lionel Luthor and Darkseid at Lex's grave. We also see the hand of  an unidentified person with the Legion ring. Which is interesting as we know Lex is set to return, but with the Legion ring, another possibility could be that instead of returning from the grave, he returns from the past with no memory of Clark's identity.

Another vital return in the episode is the alternate Jonathan Kent who, armed with green kryptonite, has Clark Kent tied. It'll be interesting to see what role he plays in Earth-2. We also see a billboard with the famous Superman logo with the caption "The Real Man of Steel" proving that Clark is well on his way to becoming the man he is being recognised as. Another notable thing we very quickly catch a glimpse of is what looks like could be another form of kryptonite, maybe gold...

Finally, the promo ends with the funeral of a character, but whos could it be...?

With the imminent return of Lex Luthors return, and the debuts of Blue Beetle and Booster Gold, Smallville continus to feed us more elements of the DC Universe, but sadly as the saying goes "all good things must come to an end"

'Kent'
