Wrestlemania 28: The Card

Wrestlemania 28: The Card

Randy Orton vs Kane
A newly revamped and and motivated Kane returned complete with a his mask and has been causing destruction ever since, finally homing on Rany Orton as a target. In what seems to be a short and rushed feud, Kane set his sights on Orton with what looked like random attacks. After eventually explaining that during a match last summer, Orton exposed Kane's human side, the Big Red Machine is determined to unleash his demonic monstrous side on the Apex Predator. Orton, however, looks to simply survive the fiery onslaught Kane promises to deliver.

Winning General Manager gains control of both Raw and Smackdown

Team Teddy (Santino Marella (c), Kofi Kingston, R-Truth, The Great Khali, Zack Ryder and Booker T) vs  Team Johnny (David Otunga (c), Drew McIntyre, Mark Henry, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger and The Miz)
Teddy Long and John Laurinaitis have both been running raw and Smackdown respectively, and have been rubbing certain superstars the wrong way ast the disagree with their methods. After Laurinaitis boldly claimed he should in charge of both, Teddy took exception and their rivalry was born. After the Board stepped in and set a tag match where the winner would be General Manager of both shows, Laurinaitis and Long set about recruiting for their teams to lead them to victory and control of the brands. There can only be one winner, and with a match of this stature, anything can happen.

Divas Tag Match
Beth Phoenix and Eve vs Kelly Kelly and Maria Menounos
It's basically the same as last years Wrestlemania Divas tag match that had Snooki. This time however, it's Maria Menounos in the celebrity spot. Phoenix, as the Divas championship rightly claims that the spotlight should be on her and not Kelly Kelly, and set out with Eve to  ake sure they were getting the attention they feel they deserve. And look to make an example a celebrity hooging heir spotlight in Menonos.

Intercontinental Championship
Cody Rhodes (C) vs Big Show
Holding the IC belt for over 200 days, Cody Rhodes has undergone major changes in the space of a year. From 'Dashing' to the 'Deranged' facing off against Rey Mysterio in a a grudge match in last years Wrestlemania, Cody has stepped up his game and solidified himself as a major threat to anyone he crosses. Whether be it Mysterio, or a legend such as Booker T, or his own brother, Goldust. BUT, he may of overstepped his boundaries when he decided to start mocking a 7 foot tall mean, angry giant who has undergone his own frustrating time. Losing his World championship to Daniel Bryan in just a minute after winning, Show has been unsuccessful mutiple times in his effort to regain what he lost. Cod, however sees this as a moment to humiliate him futher by constantly reminding him of many embarrassing moments Show would rather forget. Memories such as losing to Akebono at WM21 in a sumo match, and being knocked out by Floyd Mayweather at WM24 are amongst the videos Cody keeps embrrasing himw ith. But with his championship on the line, Rhodes may well have awoken an extremely angry giant who is capable of not only beating him, but ending his impressive title reign.

WWE Championship
CM Punk (C) vs Chris Jericho
It's one person who claims to be the Best in the world vs another who claims to b the Best in the world at what he does. Since Jericho returned, he has made it clear that he believes he is the best superstar there is and has gone out of his way to make his feelings clear. Claiming he is the 'original' superstar that everyone copies, he is intent on taking it out on CM Punk. Punk however remains defiant, and looks to retain the championship and shut Jericho up once and for all. There can only be one person who is the 'Best' and these two will battle it out.

World Heavyweight Championship
Daniel Bryan (C) vs Sheamus
Last year, this was the dark match before Wrestlemania 27 started, despite being advertised as a match as part of the PPV. However, this time around, the match is one of the main event matches between the two.
Sheamus winning the 2012 Royal Rumble made im eligible to challenge any champion between Daniel Bryan and CM Punk. After retaining his title in the Elimination Chamber against Barrett, Rhodes, Khali, Big Show, and Santino, we found out that the Celtic Warrior had made his choice. Bryan being the champion capable of 'weasling' his way out of the most difficult situations makes it possible to come out still the champ. But Sheamus being on a destructive hot streak also makes him a strong challenger to take the title away.

Hell in a Cell
Triple H vs The Undertaker (Shawn Michaels as Special Guest Referee)
Two of the greatest superstars ever. And two of the most experienced superstars when it comes to being part of 'Satans Playground'. The third time these two face of at Wrestlemania after their destructive match which saw Undertaker win but suffer a beating resulting in him being carried out on a stretcher. Upon returning, he has been desperate to get a rematch so he can get his defining win. Or as he put it, "Vengeance". HHH, reluctant at first, finally accepted with the condition that they fight inside inside the cell structure. With the streak on the line as usual. this match will not fail to thrill and HHH is more than capable of beating 'Taker. But the question is can he? or will the streak extend to 20-0?

And with Shawan Michaels as Special guest referee, will his grudge aginst the Deadman cost Undertaker the match, or his jealousy over his best friend possibly doing what he couldn't in 2 Wrestlemania's sway his decision. Teasing a possible return match against his fellow DX member hints at him turning on his best friend...

Icon vs Icon
The Rock vs John Cena
Arguably the main event of the night. Besides the inevitable Undertaker Streak match, it is definately the main attraction of Wrestlemania 28. A fantasy match that had been talked about before he match even happened, The Rock and John Cena face off against as two icons who define two different generations and eras. The Rock, representing the attitude era and older generation of fans, whilst John Cena represents the much younger and current generation of fans. Just like Rock vs Hogan from Wrestlemania 18, it will very much captivate the audience, regardless of age or who they are a fan of.

Wrestlemania 27: A letdown...?

Wrestlemania 28:
Sunday, April 3rd 2011
The Georgia Dome. Atlanta, Georgia

The show opens with the guest host himself, The Rock to cut a promo and warm up the 71,000 strong Atlanta crowd. By Rock's standard, the promo was well below expectations and was not the typical promo that fans are used to seeing

The first match of the night is Edge vs Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship.
A very surprising choice for a opening match considering you have the world champion and Royal Rumble winner facing off against each other, which judging by the reaction did throw the crowd off. But nonetheless, the two superstars put on a god opening match with Edge eventually retaining the championship, spearing Del Rio for the win. After the match, Christian and Edge took a crowbar and steel pipe to Del Rio's $100,000 Rolls Royce and proceeded to scratch and smash the car, reducing Del Rio to close to tears.
Match Rating: 6/10

The next match is the formerly 'Dashing' Cody Rhodes vs Rey Mysterio.
Cody comes out first, still hiding his faced, whilst Rey came out dressed in a Captain America inspired costume. Considering this was second on the card the two put on a very impressive match. Rhodes managed to get the win by smashing the removed knee pad of Rey and smashing into his face behind the referees back.
Another good match early on the card with good performances from both.
7/10

Big Show, Kane, Kofi Kingston & Santino Marella vs. The Corre
A very, and I mean very short match. I would be surprised if this match got even two minutes. There loads of high spots crammed in with people taking finishing moves. Match ended with Santino hitting Slater with the cobra, who then turns to be knocked out by Big Shows right hand. Not much can be said for this match considering it was below 2 minutes long.
2/10

Randy Orton vs. CM Punk
One of the more anticipated matches which did not fail to disappoint, and was one of the well put together matches. Lots of back and forwards action with both men being able to gain advantages over the other. CM Punk had the advantage towards the end of the match but made the mistake of leapfrogging into a RKO to end the match.
7/10

Michael Cole vs Jerry Lawler
(Special Guest Referee - Stone Cold Steve Austin)
This highly anticipated match gave the fans what in Michael Cole getting what was deserved, but with Cole not being a natural competitor, this match was never going to be an all out brawl. The match did have its moments though with a swerve at the end of the match resulting in a decision reversal, Stone Cold delivering 3 stunners, and comedy moments from Cole.
Lawler managed to get Cole to submit, but according to the Raw Genenral Manager, Austin abused his use of authority and deemed Michael Cole the new winner of the match
5/10

No Holds Barred Match
The Undertaker vs. Triple H
This had to be match of the night with of the men leaving everything in the ring. From the very start of the match, both competitors went full on at each other never letting up. The match had it all with chairs, tables and even the destruction of Michale Cole's 'Colemine'. However, Undertaker continued his winning streak, forcing Triple to submit to the gogoplata and carrying on to an unprecedented 19-0. The brutality of the match was evident though with either man unable to stand at the conclusion, and Undertaker having to be driven to the back on a stretcher.
9/10

Trish Stratus, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi & John Morrison vs. Dolph Ziggler & LayCool
A decent mixed tag match with Stratus, Snooki and Morrison getting the win after Snooki performed the shock of the night by pulling off a handspring elbow to pin McCool.Ziggler and Morrison hardly had any input in the match with them only fighting on the outside and Morrison performing Starship Pain to ringside.
 6/10

WWE Championship Match
The Miz (c) vs. John Cena
Considering this was the main event of the night, this was a dissapointing and standard match with many people more interested in what role The Rock would play. The match intitially ended with both Cena and Miz being counted out after crashing over the guard rail and unable to recover in time. The Rock, being the host, would restart the match with no count outs or disqualifications. The match did restart and arguably, the highlight of the match would be The Rock delivering a Rock Bottom to Cena, allowing The Miz to make the pin and decisively retain the title.
5/10

Overal, Wrestlemania 27 was a disappointment considering the fact that it is the biggest event of the wrestling year. It wa an entertaining event, but failed to live up to t's expectations and barely kept up with the standard of its predecessors. The Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan match was cut from the card, and the two main event matches did not help matters. The guest host, The Rock, nowhere near his best and seemed like he was holding back and speaking with more restraint than we are used to see to seeing from hi.
My rating: 6/10

Wrestlemania 27: The Card

WWE Championship
The Miz (c) vs John Cena
The 'Awesome' has come a long way from his debut as a Tough Enough competitor back in 2004. Since then, he has racked up an impressive resume including United States, Tag team, Money in the Bank, and WWE Championships. Defeating a number of top superstars on his journey, Miz has proven to the world that he can hang with the best of them. Headlining Wrestlemainia as the top guy, Miz goes in against the one superstar he has yet to beat in the ring. That man...John Cena. Cena, has been to 'Mania as the champ, and has come out on top many times. But the rivalry both superstars have built with none other than The Rock has the potential to cost either man the match, and the title. What involvement will The Rock have on this match? Will we see another Cena title reign, or will The Miz silence his doubters once and for all and prove that he really is Awesome?

World Heavyweight Championship
Edge (c)  vs Alberto Del Rio
An intense rivalry where it appears that not only Edge and Del Rio play in this match, but Christian who have a deep seeded rivalry with Del Rio, and Brodus Clay who has taken on the role of Del Rio's muscle. With the two men involved in the match constantly trying to get the better of the opponent, it would seem natural that other men would be drawn into this rivalry. With Christian making an impact since his return, and actually beating Del Rio in two matches, will he play into the title picture, or will Clay help ensure that Del Rio wins his first ever singles title.

United States Championship
 Sheamus (c) vs Daniel Bryan
With the Celtic Warrior back to winning ways after his King of the Ring curse,Sheamus has managed to prove he is back to best by winning champioship gold. However the technically gifted Daniel Bryan looks to regain the title he lost by invoking his rematch clause on the biggest stage of them all. Both competitors have the potential to put on one the best matches of the night with the the smaller but crafty Bryan looking to wear down the physically dominating and barbaric Sheamus.

The Undertaker vs Triple H
No Holds Barred
The streak has always been the one the great attractions of Wrestlemania. If not, THE attraction of Wrestlemania with all respect to the title matches. But with The Undertaker on an amazing 18-0 undefeated streak, Triple H looks to try his luck and bring that amazing 18 year record to an end. Unlike any other match on the card, there has been been a face off, and a battle of words words, but no physicality between the two. But despite this, people are still talking of whether the streak is jeopardy against a man who has demonstrated in the past that need be, he can be one of the most vicious and brutal. Add the fact that the no holds barred stipulation means that there are no rules or restrictions, against one of the most cold hearted competitors in history, and one one must wonder if The Undertaker may have come up against a man who has shown him in the past that he really is a 'Cereabral Assasin'. Then again, The Undertaker is one of the most intimidating, and can be just as cold hearted, and the 18-0 undefeated streak speaks for itself and could very well become 19-0 this year

Randy Orton vs CM Punk
The seeds of this rivalry were planted back in 2008 at Unforgiven. Orton punting CM Punk in the head shortly before his title match meant the Straightedge superstar could not compete and had to vacate his heavyweight championship. Come 2010, Punk subtly reminded everyone that someone in the past had wronged him, and that they would pay. Fast forward to Royal Rumble 2011, and we would soon learn that the person Punk referred to was none other than Randy Orton. For three long months, the two have been locked in a bitter battle including multiple beat downs and members of Punk's New Nexus being systematically being taken out by the viper ensuring the two face of one on one. Will Randy put a stop to Punk's revenge mission, or does the straightedge superstar have another plan to get what he's been planning for three years?

Cody Rhodes vs Rey Mysterio
Cody Rhodes, no longer 'Dashing', thanks to Rey... Or so he says. Donning a creepy looking protective mask, Cody's transformation from a vain, pretty boy, to a dark, brooding character who can no longer even stand a mirror has taken this to a whole new level of personal and has been looking to exact revenge on Rey for the last few weeks. Even going as far as involving his Hall of Fame father, Dusty Rhodes, to double cross Mysterio. Getting his match on the grand stage, Cody looks to heal his fractured psyche, whilst Rey must simply survive against the man who blames him for taking away his 'Dashing' looks

Michael Cole vs Jerry Lawler
(Special Guest Referee - Stone Cold Steve Austin)
One could say that this is one of the most anticipated matches on the card. After months and months of torment, everybody is waiting for The King to finally get his hands on the self proclaimed "Voice of the WWE". With Jack Swagger already in his corner, Cole has had the upper hand hiding behind his muscle bound trainer whilst hurling a torrent of abuse and embarrassment at Lawler. Add the volatile Stone Cold Steve Austin as the referee, it looks as if Jerry Lawler's first ever Wrestlemania match will be one Cole will regret being a part of.

The Corre vs Big Show, Kane, Santino Marella and Vladmir Kozlov
 Eight Man Tag Team
Newly crowned Intercontintal Champion, Wade Barrett, leads his group of rebels into their first ever Wrestlemania match against a team they have left their mark on in the last few weeks. Big Show, Kane, Santino and Kozlov look to even the score after weeks of beatbowns and look to prove that they, like The Corre, are not to be taken likely

Dolph Ziggler & LayCool vs John Morrison, Trish Stratus & Snooki
The WWE has always been an attraction for celebrities. And this match is no different with Jersey Shore's Snooki participating in a Wrestlemania match. As soon as she set foot in the ring, the loud and annoying and jealous Vickie Guerrero took an instant dislike. And after being embarrassed, made the challenge for the mixed tag team match. Throw in the mix, the talents of Dolph Ziggler, John Morrison, and one of the all time great womens champions in Trish Stratus, the outcome of this match will have attention from the the world and definitely the Jersey Shore
