The Georgia Dome. Atlanta, Georgia
The show opens with the guest host himself, The Rock to cut a promo and warm up the 71,000 strong Atlanta crowd. By Rock's standard, the promo was well below expectations and was not the typical promo that fans are used to seeing
The first match of the night is Edge vs Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship.
A very surprising choice for a opening match considering you have the world champion and Royal Rumble winner facing off against each other, which judging by the reaction did throw the crowd off. But nonetheless, the two superstars put on a god opening match with Edge eventually retaining the championship, spearing Del Rio for the win. After the match, Christian and Edge took a crowbar and steel pipe to Del Rio's $100,000 Rolls Royce and proceeded to scratch and smash the car, reducing Del Rio to close to tears.
Match Rating: 6/10
The next match is the formerly 'Dashing' Cody Rhodes vs Rey Mysterio.
Cody comes out first, still hiding his faced, whilst Rey came out dressed in a Captain America inspired costume. Considering this was second on the card the two put on a very impressive match. Rhodes managed to get the win by smashing the removed knee pad of Rey and smashing into his face behind the referees back.
Another good match early on the card with good performances from both.
7/10
Big Show, Kane, Kofi Kingston & Santino Marella vs. The Corre
A very, and I mean very short match. I would be surprised if this match got even two minutes. There loads of high spots crammed in with people taking finishing moves. Match ended with Santino hitting Slater with the cobra, who then turns to be knocked out by Big Shows right hand. Not much can be said for this match considering it was below 2 minutes long.
2/10
Randy Orton vs. CM Punk
One of the more anticipated matches which did not fail to disappoint, and was one of the well put together matches. Lots of back and forwards action with both men being able to gain advantages over the other. CM Punk had the advantage towards the end of the match but made the mistake of leapfrogging into a RKO to end the match.
7/10
Michael Cole vs Jerry Lawler
(Special Guest Referee - Stone Cold Steve Austin)
This highly anticipated match gave the fans what in Michael Cole getting what was deserved, but with Cole not being a natural competitor, this match was never going to be an all out brawl. The match did have its moments though with a swerve at the end of the match resulting in a decision reversal, Stone Cold delivering 3 stunners, and comedy moments from Cole.
Lawler managed to get Cole to submit, but according to the Raw Genenral Manager, Austin abused his use of authority and deemed Michael Cole the new winner of the match
5/10
No Holds Barred Match
The Undertaker vs. Triple H
This had to be match of the night with of the men leaving everything in the ring. From the very start of the match, both competitors went full on at each other never letting up. The match had it all with chairs, tables and even the destruction of Michale Cole's 'Colemine'. However, Undertaker continued his winning streak, forcing Triple to submit to the gogoplata and carrying on to an unprecedented 19-0. The brutality of the match was evident though with either man unable to stand at the conclusion, and Undertaker having to be driven to the back on a stretcher.
9/10
Trish Stratus, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi & John Morrison vs. Dolph Ziggler & LayCool
A decent mixed tag match with Stratus, Snooki and Morrison getting the win after Snooki performed the shock of the night by pulling off a handspring elbow to pin McCool.Ziggler and Morrison hardly had any input in the match with them only fighting on the outside and Morrison performing Starship Pain to ringside.
6/10
WWE Championship Match
The Miz (c) vs. John Cena
Considering this was the main event of the night, this was a dissapointing and standard match with many people more interested in what role The Rock would play. The match intitially ended with both Cena and Miz being counted out after crashing over the guard rail and unable to recover in time. The Rock, being the host, would restart the match with no count outs or disqualifications. The match did restart and arguably, the highlight of the match would be The Rock delivering a Rock Bottom to Cena, allowing The Miz to make the pin and decisively retain the title.
5/10
Overal, Wrestlemania 27 was a disappointment considering the fact that it is the biggest event of the wrestling year. It wa an entertaining event, but failed to live up to t's expectations and barely kept up with the standard of its predecessors. The Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan match was cut from the card, and the two main event matches did not help matters. The guest host, The Rock, nowhere near his best and seemed like he was holding back and speaking with more restraint than we are used to see to seeing from hi.
My rating: 6/10
